1182 (Shepton Mallet) Squadron Air Cadets entered and competed in this year’s Moat Boat Race which is held annually at the Wells Bishop’s Palace during the August Bank Holiday. The cadets from the Squadron have been busy designing and creating a new raft and theme replacing an outdated raft. The cadets were assisted in the creation of the new raft by instructors CI Gary West and WO Tony Pillar.

The cadets themselves chose the theme, and then they were let loose on the creation of costumes and styling of the actual raft.

This year’s theme was Harry Potter and the boat was styled to reflect the Hogwarts Express with Harry Potter making an appearance himself.

Prior to the actual racing starting the team took part in the fancy dress parade; independent judges rewarded all of the efforts that the crew put in by awarding the 1st Place prize to Hogwarts Express. Shepton Mallet Squadron bring home another prize this month.

Spirits remained high following this throughout the rest of the day even after last minute emergency repairs on the raft.

Shepton Mallet Squadron are currently recruiting so if you are at least 12 and in year 8 at school please contact us on 1182@nullaircadets.org for more information on the exciting opportunities that are waiting for you.
